LOTTON K4 Full-Range Speaker User Review

When I first heard the K4 speakers in action, I was immediately amazed by how clear and three-dimensional the vocals sounded compared to other 4-inch full-range speakers I had heard before. The K4 significantly improves sound imaging and presence, and its size (W23.5 x D26 x H36 cm) is noticeably larger. The cabinet design and drivers show meticulous attention to detail. The speaker cone’s surround is made of a special suede-like material, and the driver is our own PX-4S model, which has received great support in both the US and Japanese markets.

The sound of the K4 is steady and reserved, yet lively and natural. Vocals are centered and focused, giving a warm and personable feeling. The rhythm of jazz music is well presented. Whether listening to vocals or instruments, the imaging is vivid, as if the performers are right in front of you. The subtle emotional flow between notes fully immerses you in the music. Listening to piano albums like The Koln Concert and Gymnopédies - Memory revealed beautifully sustained piano harmonics, so captivating that I found myself playing them repeatedly. Note that this was before the speakers were fully run-in, so the sound will only get better.

Regarding music genres, the K4 is perfect for small ensembles like chamber music and jazz, and also very suitable for pop and rock. It handles large ensembles well too, with a good sense of soundstage scale, plenty of detail, and clear separation between instruments without any muddiness.

For best results, I recommend removing the speaker grille during listening and replacing it when not in use.

When asked about bass performance compared to the BOSE 363, I find 363’s bass to be a bit overly sculpted. The K4’s bass is natural, quick, and lively, with a smooth midrange and a pleasingly rich low end. Overall, I confidently say it outperforms the 363.

Listening to the large-scale movie soundtrack Hans Zimmer’s Musical World, the K4 also delivers a convincing performance. Especially on the third track, Mission Impossible 2 Orchestra Suite: Parts 1 – 2, the flamenco flavor shines through with rich character. It’s hard to believe this sound comes from a 4-inch full-range driver.

I used to own the British TANNOY Revolution DC4 (a coaxial speaker), but the K4 is a different league both in appearance and sound quality. This is the first time in years of community discussions that I’ve given such high praise to a speaker.

In summary, the LOTTON K4 offers astonishing value for money and is highly recommendable!

For optimal soundstage, I suggest placing the speakers 1.5 to 2 meters apart in a room of about 13 to 17 square meters.
