DETAIL

Although the K4’s 4-inch driver resembles those of other brands in appearance, we have made numerous enhancements specifically for the K4. These include the thickness and material selection of the cone, a specially designed surround, an outer ring made of aluminum alloy, a metal cover around the driver magnet, and an additional 4 screw fastening points—totaling 8 screws securing the driver. These improvements are not merely for aesthetics but are specifications aimed at optimizing the 4-inch driver’s performance. Step by step, we have strengthened the speaker’s capabilities.

Lotton Electronics understands the discerning tastes of Taiwanese audiophiles. Even after reaching this point, we felt there was room for improvement. After multiple listening tests, we discovered certain frequency ranges could sound even purer. Thus, further adjustments were made by optimizing the internal wiring between the speaker terminals and the driver.

We ultimately selected a high-grade Japanese-made oxygen-free copper (OFC) wire, which differs from the fine copper strands typically used in consumer audio products. This OFC wire features fewer strands but thicker gauge conductors. Furthermore, the copper surface is plated with gold and silver. This type of plating is often priced higher than the entire K4 speaker cable set in audiophile-grade equipment.

Consequently, the internal wiring material surpasses that of many consumer-grade speakers and directly enters the realm of high-end audiophile cabling.

This purity in materials allows the sound to be clearer and more transparent, with high frequencies that are neither harsh nor piercing. Good wiring ensures a more genuine transmission, allowing current to flow more smoothly. Beyond the mid-to-high frequencies, the mid-to-low frequencies also benefit, enabling the driver to respond more swiftly and decisively, with tighter bass performance.

We also enhanced the speaker terminals. After extensive listening tests with many well-known audiophile terminals, we settled on the current version, which accepts spade connectors, banana plugs, and bare wire. This type of terminal is commonly found on the back of many high-end amplifiers and equipment. We tested many terminals, and this current one is the best fit for the K4.

The terminal’s build quality is very stable and imposes minimal negative impact on the driver. Some expensive, highly engineered terminals did not provide comprehensive improvements during listening tests. Selecting and changing these two materials alone involved extensive time for testing, comparison, and evaluation.

The cabinet, driver, internal wiring, and terminals—all these components come together as the strongest alliance, without any weak links, to achieve the beautiful sound that the Lotton K4 pursues. Good design combined with premium material choices results in synergistic effects.

The pairing of Lotton’s tube amplifiers with the K4 is exemplary. At audio shows, even using very ordinary sources for demonstration, the sound produced by Lotton’s tube amplifier and K4 combination is outstanding and frequently draws a full house.

Especially with female vocalists and small ensembles, there is an indescribable natural warmth, clearly revealing the details in the recordings: the character of each instrument, the performers’ techniques, and the vocal nuances. This is not empty bragging—many showrooms charging triple the price of the Lotton system produce sound that definitely does not match the Lotton combination!

Since 2018, we have used the single “Liberty” by Norwegian singer Annette Askvik as the demonstration track for our showrooms. Annette was the music ambassador for the last Munich High-End Audio Show, and “Liberty” was a key audition track there.

Since then, both we and Aiyue Audio have independently played this track, gradually influencing the audiophile community and attracting considerable attention. A few years later, it became the “anthem” of the audio show.

Simply put, with “Liberty” as the test recording, within a similar budget range, very few brands can surpass the performance of Lotton’s tube amplifier and K4 speakers, not to mention clearly outperforming them. Even renowned brands like Atoll find it difficult to match.

This is the result of Taiwanese dedication and effort.

The combination of Lotton’s tube amplifier and the K4 allows listeners to clearly hear the intricate recording details hidden within “Liberty.” You will be amazed at how much thought went into this piece. The recordings, mixing of various instruments, and the vocalist’s performance are all at the highest level, making it a natural choice for the final edition of the Munich High-End Audio Show.
